Graduate Trainee

Role: Young Africa International Greening Graduate Trainee.
Location: 147 Greendale Avenue, Greendale, Harare.
Reports to: Head of Programmes.
Contract length: 12 months.

Position Overview
The trainee will help embed environmental sustainability, climate resilience and green practices into the organisation’s operations and support the rollout of the Greening Strategy across all Young Africa affiliates in the region. The work involves backing green initiatives, managing thorough data gathering and monitoring, improving learning systems and assisting trainees to spread energy efficiency, waste management, renewable energy adoption and environmental awareness inside the institution.

Key Duties
- Help integrate green skills and environmental sustainability into technical and vocational education curricula.
- Assist instructors in adding climate‑smart and environmentally responsible methods into training modules.
- Perform research on new green technologies that are relevant for vocational training programs.
- Aid in setting up waste management systems (reduce, reuse, recycle projects) and circularity programs across all branches.
- Track resource use and suggest ways to improve efficiency.
- Support the management of existing renewable energy systems and evaluate chances for new renewable solutions in all affiliates.
- Encourage energy‑saving habits among affiliate staff.

Job responsibilities
- Assist with setting up or overseeing green technologies when needed.
- Help organize environmental awareness events, green days, and sustainability workshops.
- Create teaching resources about climate change, circular economy, and protecting the environment.
- Provide support to Greening Committees and student‑led eco projects.
- Examine sustainability data such as waste amounts, energy use, and water consumption.
- Produce regular reports on sustainability performance.

Qualifications and requirements
- Hold a bachelor's degree in subjects like environmental science, renewable energy, climate change, natural resource management, or sustainable development.
- Understand environmental management systems and sustainability principles applied in TVET.
- Having basic knowledge of renewable energy technologies is a plus.
- Possess solid research, data‑gathering, and report‑writing abilities.
- Have good communication and presentation skills.
- Be capable of working with young individuals.
