Teaching Assistant to a Visually Impaired Lecturer

Contract Period: 2 years
Role Summary
The university is inviting applications for a Teaching Assistant to support a visually impaired lecturer. The successful candidate will assist with academic, administrative, and classroom-related tasks to ensure effective teaching and learning.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
Help administer, mark, and record examination and test results.
Maintain and update students’ academic records and files.
Convert printed or visual materials into accessible soft-copy formats for the lecturer’s use.
Support the assessment of students’ academic progress and learning goals.
Assist with marking assignments, projects, and fieldwork reports, especially those submitted in hard copy.
Provide daily mobility and general assistance to the lecturer.
Support management of e-learning platforms, including uploading and downloading learning resources.
Supervise students during tests, individual tasks, and group work.
Assist in overseeing students during work-related learning activities.
Monitor students in class and during individual activities to promote a safe and positive learning environment.
Carry out record-keeping and basic clerical duties such as scheduling and photocopying to support teaching activities.

Qualifications, Experience and Personal Attributes
Educational Requirements
At least five Ordinary Level subjects including English Language.
A degree in Social Work.
Registration with the Council of Social Work.
Basic knowledge and proficiency in Braille.
Experience working with visually impaired individuals (paid or voluntary) is an added advantage.
Basic computer literacy.
Strong attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines.
Good interpersonal skills for effective interaction with students.
Additional Competencies
Strong communication and organizational abilities.
Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access.
Ability to manage multiple tasks accurately while maintaining attention to detail.
